Chronic disease is the largest preventable health problem in San Francisco, and lack of physical activity is a major contributor. Many of the specific programs listed below are linked to the Mayor's Shape Up San Francisco Challenge and are being implemented in partnership with the Department of Children Youth and their Families (DCYF); the Department of Public Health; and the Recreation and Park Department.
Shape Up Coalition
The Shape Up San Francisco Coalition is a multidisciplinary body convened to address the epidemic of chronic disease through primary prevention, environmental strategies with an emphasis on physical activity and nutrition. The Coalition is committed to reducing health disparities in chronic diseases that disproportionately affect African American, Latino and Asian populations.
