This is a draft in progress that will replace our current and outdated portion of the DPH website . [Note: this iteration has been replaced by a less busy one.] These pages will reflect what it is that we're trying to do here. The aim is to finish this site by late December so that it can be moved to the DPH site. The look of the site will change (this type is too small, and it cannot be adjusted in the browser); it's the organization and content that is currently under development. Our Web Master can help us with the final appearance.
The top menu bar groups our various programs into cross-cutting issues (tobacco, alcohol, physical activity, diet, and injuries) and demographic groups (youth, ethnic/racial, and newcomers). Also included is a link to an alphabetic listing of our programs (programs: A-Z).
The left-hand menu bar links to the various strategies that are used in our programs. Also on the left-hand menu bar is a definition of public health and key public health concepts.
Our mission is to promote health and to prevent disease and injury in San Francisco. While a spectrum of prevention programs exists throughout the Department and within our Branch, we are modeling an approach to prevention that changes the societal context in which disease and injury occur (called the "environmental" approach). To be effective, this approach depends upon the active involvement of the community.
